GOVERNORS
Our aim as governors is to work with the the Local Authority, the headteacher, all the parents, teachers and pupils to make and keep St Mary's Catholic Primary School a caring and positive place to learn and to enable all pupils to fulfil their potential.
The board of governors have responsibility regarding the conduct of the School, but must at all times take into account the views of the LA when decision making is required in key areas, including:
- Management of the budget.
- The curriculum and standards.
- Pay and performance management.
- The appointment of the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher.
In practice, this means that the governors have four main strategic objectives:
- Ensuring the clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of St Mary’s.
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the School and making sure its money is well spent.
- Maintaining the Catholicity of the School.
The Governing body currently has six members, including a representative of the Diocese of Clifton. All are experienced governors with wide skill sets. Each member has a portfolio of individual responsibilities, which are currently:
